Sacramento Airport Selects DCG for Warehouse Planning Assistance

Derek Consulting Group has been selected by Sacramento County Airport System (SCAS) to provide planning and implementation assistance for a new Central Warehouse at Sacramento International Airport (SMF).

Sacramento County Airport System, a unit of the County of Sacramento, operates Sacramento International Airport, Sacramento Executive Airport, Mather Airport, and Franklin Field. At Sacramento International Airport (SMF), a facility project has constructed a Central Receiving Facility "shell" for centralized receiving and supply storage/issuing facility. The facility is envisioned to initially serve the needs of the airport operator, but as it evolves, the facility is also anticipated to support a centralized “commissary” or “dock” facility to screen other airport-use shipments arriving and destined for the secure areas.

Phase 1, this project, has the following objectives:

• Define the requirements – organization, policy, procedure, systems, and physical facility – for implementing a centralized purchasing and supply warehouse in the SCAS environment (the Program)
• Recommend the approach and action plan for implementing the Program
• Prepare a budget and implementation schedule for the Program

Included in the scope of this study are:

• Policy needs/changes
• Procedural needs/changes
• General document/work flow needs/changes
• Logistical improvements
• Facility needs (build out requirements, including shell improvements and equipment needs)
• Organization and staffing considerations
• IT system support requirements, including use of and interfaces with other County financial management systems (SAP) where available

Phase 2 of the project is providing implementation assistance for the build out and staff up of the new facility. DCG services include:

• Position description assistance
• Warehouse design and layout planning, including throughput design, racking plan, and building improvements
• Specification and implementation assistance for implementing the County's SAP Warehouse Management System
•  Definition of "To Be" processes to support activity requirements
• Training assistance with new processes and systems
• Policies and procedures documentation
