Network Management/Monitoring
DCG implemented fault management and change management processes for HAS, including initiation of 24/7 NOC-based network monitoring services (provided by Verizon), to assist HAS in maintaining and improving high network management and STS service levels.
In establishing baseline levels, DCG, with the assistance of sub consultants, completed a network vulnerability assessment for HAS involving scan and penetration (ethical hacking) testing.
DCG assisted HAS with requirements definition and vendor selection for an enterprise network management system (Altiris) encompassing the following elements:
- Asset Management
- Incident Management (including self service)
- Configuration Management
- Deployment Management
- Software Metering
- Change Management
- Remote Desktop Management

E-911 Implementation
800 Trunk Radio Engineering
DCG, with the assistance of sub consultants, conducted 800 trunk radio engineering analysis and assisted HAS with license and operational migration to the Harris County regional radio network. Provided inter-local agreement negotiation assistance.
Call Accounting System
DCG served as Project Manager for the implementation of a new Call Accounting System that provides the Airport System with adaptable call accounting functionalities for local, long distance, and international calls. It provides alerts, email automatic reporting, web-based access for users and customers, customizable rate structures, and flexible reporting.
City of Houston
Facility RelocationDCG served as project manager to define facility requirements, design, and provide relocation planning assistance to move all information systems infrastructure into the City of Houston’s new 26 floor building occupied by 2,000+ employees.
The scope included computer room design of the City’s first server farm facility, housing more than 70 servers; generaldesign of the buildings premise distribution system, which includes a fiber backbone with Fast Ethernet and VLAN switching/routing technology; and, an enterprise-wide network management support center.
MS Exchange ImplementationDCG prepared a detailed implementation plan and rollout strategy for implementing Microsoft Exchange (MS Exchange) as theDepartment-wide enterprise e-mail platform. The legacy environment previously had 17 separate mail server installations throughout the Department, supporting more than 2,000 users/seats.
The Plan considered server sizing and location; directory services migration; administration strategy; desktop migration strategy to Outlook; user training in Outlook; and, the cost of all components. DCG’s scope of services included:
- Reviewing the current e-mail environment, including user needs for e-mail and scheduling services; e-mail architecture;e-mail activity; overall LAN/WAN configuration and capacity; NT domain design (both within the Department and provision fora City-wide Exchange resource architecture); and, support organization/resources.
- Providing interim e-mail administration and consulting support to Department LAN administration staff during this transition period or until a suitable administration person is placed on staff or the function is outsourced.
- Provide implementation assistance as required in accordance with the support needs of the Department. The specific scope ofsupport assistance will be determined by the Department once the Plan is available and management staffing decisions aremade.
